EDIBLE SCHOOL GARDENS
We have been growing and greening since 2008. Our primary focus is in re-educating the youth of today on the importance of sustainable food systems that are locally grown without pesticides and chemicals.
Edible School Gardens aims to highlight all the wonderful school growing initiatives across South Africa so that schools can easily find the champions in their area.
It is our belief that when our youth begin to eat pure food again, that has not been tainted by chemicals and toxins, we will begin to see an increase in the rate of academic achievement and overall general improvement of their ability to be active, hard working and resilient members of their community
We worked with Justin Bonello to design, install and implement his first permaculture and market gardens at some of the schools in the Southern Peninsula in Cape Town. Justin has created a wonderful project that is making a huge impact towards combating food insecurity in the region as well as educating the local community on the benefits of growing and consuming organic and fresh produce.
